5 Books that Inspired My Spiritual Awakening
In my early 20s, I found myself questioning larger concepts about my life and humanity as a whole. Why are we here on earth? What am I doing with my time? What’s the point and purpose of this whole life thing? I discovered Oprah’s Super Soul Podcast, the gateway drug into my spirituality. I was drawn to conversations about the soul and the universe.
To be clear, my spiritual journey is not over; it is ever-evolving.
If you, like I was, are in the early stages of understanding your connection to spirit, God, Universe, or whatever terminology you prefer, here are some texts that might help you dive deeper into your own spiritual awakening. I know they definitely helped me.
5 Books that Inspired My Spiritual Awakening:
A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle:
Undoubtedly inspired by Oprah, this was the first spiritual text I really connected with, and I still refer back to it at least once a year. This book launched my spiritual awakening. It is a great tool to help recognize where ego and past pain are blocking you from the present moment, which is the key to consciousness. If you are in search of a text that will help you better understand the world we live in and help you find more peace and presence in your life, this is the one for you.
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho:
This is a great read if you are not a big reader. The spiritual concepts are written through the lens of a storybook. It’s short and sweet but packs a punch. This book helps you look at your everyday life and analyze why we are here. It opens a door for you to explore your personal mission on this planet and leaves you feeling more connected.
The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz:
I was gifted this book, and I am so grateful for that. Its Toltec teachings hold deep wisdom. I would recommend this book to someone who has a more "realist" view of the world. This book gives you practical tools to use in your everyday life. These agreements: Be Impeccable With Your Word, Don’t Take Anything Personally, Don’t Make Assumptions, and Always Do Your Best are goals that everyone can reach.
You Are More Than You Think You Are by Kimberly Snyder:
This book not only holds deep spiritual knowledge but also tools and meditations for you to try out along the way. This is great for someone looking for tangible tools to use in everyday life. It provides you with breathing techniques, meditations, and journaling prompts that help you feel more connected to yourself and the world around you. Even though I'm partial to a physical book, I recommend getting the audiobook; that way, you can listen to meditations and other techniques in real-time.
Meet Your Soul by Elisa Romeo:
This book is another one that has tangible tools to utilize; I also recommend the audiobook for this so you can practice the techniques while listening. This book helps you identify the difference between your "Self" and your "Soul," the highest version of your being. This is great for someone who wants to learn practices that elevate their consciousness and connect you with your soul's mission.
